Back to School Tips and Guidelines

How can you ensure your child has a successful school year? Joe Pelser, M.D., a pediatrician with the Primary and Convenient Care - Chenal Clinic in Little Rock, offers his advice to parents.

The most important thing is sleep -- routine bedtimes and wake times. And, all electronics need to be turned off an hour before going to bed. To limit the spread of COVID-19, Dr. Elser advises using masks, diligent hand washing and social distancing.

To erase as much fear as possible, parents should remain confident and project that onto their children. "Most of the kids are not listening to the news – what they hear is from their parents,” says Dr. Elser. “So, if the parents can continue with a relatively positive attitude and being encouraging, I think it helps a lot with kids.”

Also, it's very important to teach children what it takes to stay well and reassure them that adults are working to make things better.
