CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Becomes First in Southwest Arkansas to Establish a Minimally Invasive, Robotic-Assisted Surgery Program

CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs has established a new robotic-assisted surgery program with the addition of the da Vinci® XiTM Surgical System, making it the only hospital across Southwest Arkansas to provide minimally invasive, robotic-assisted procedures. The da Vinci® XiTM Surgical System is part of a multidisciplinary program offering general surgery, gynecology and urology services with significant patient benefits that include less pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery times.

“Our patients here in Hot Springs and across Southwest Arkansas deserve the highest quality care available and this addition of the country’s most advanced surgical robot is one more step forward in our commitment to providing them with the best, most compassionate care possible,” said CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs President Dr. Douglas Ross.

The first surgery in Hot Springs utilizing the da Vinci® XiTM Surgical System will be conducted by CHI St. Vincent general surgeon Dr. Vinicio Medina. With robotic-assisted surgery, the surgeon remains 100% in control of the procedure, but the da Vinci® XiTM Surgical System translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements with the added benefit of a 3D magnified view.

“This advancement offers both patients and my fellow surgeons the opportunity to do far more than conduct incredibly precise and minimally invasive procedures,” said Dr. Medina. “It also helps ensure increasingly better patient outcomes with less time in surgery, less time in the hospital and an even smaller chance for any complications.”

The addition of the da Vinci® XiTM Surgical System is part of the ministry’s ongoing commitment to providing exceptional, compassionate care. CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs recently earned a prestigious five-star overall rating for quality of care and patient safety from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the only full service hospital in Southwest Arkansas to receive that highest rating. It was also one of only three hospitals in Arkansas to earn an “A” in Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades’ spring 2021 rankings, recognizing the hospital’s achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.
