Our bariatric story began the year 2015 when my husband and I became interested in a procedure performed at CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs by Dr. Kaler and Dr. Webb. We both understood that our weight problems as well as sedentary lifestyles had led to poor health in both of our lives resulting in a lot of additional stress and tension in our strong marriage.  Thankfully with the assistance of the bariatric coordinator, we attended the required seminar, dietary education sessions and support group meetings which helped us to educate us on proper diet, exercise, portion control and key triggers that lead to over eating and poor eating habits.  All of this information not only resulted in a positive long-term outcome but ultimately strengthened our marriage and accountability partnership.  Rob and I went into the program completely open-minded with the goal of not only losing weight but “feeling” better, becoming more active and spending many more positive years together as a couple.

Myself (Christle Loudermilk) started out in June 2015 weighing in at 253# and a BMI of 46%.  I was taking blood pressure medication on a daily basis and had difficulty walking long distances.  My surgery date was June 30, 2015 and today (8/2/18) I am proud to say that I am maintaining at 159# and my BMI is at 29%.  Although still considered overweight, I feel very accomplished and have absolutely no desire to ever return to the former 46% BMI.  I haven’t taken any medication for blood pressure control since the day before surgery 3 years ago and my BP remains normal.

My husband (Rob Loudermilk) started out in June 2015 weighing in at 322# and a BMI of 45%.  Rob was diagnosed as pre-diabetic 2 years before our bariatric surgery journey and took Metformin twice daily for glycemic control.  His surgery date was Sept. 9, 2015 and today (8/2/18) Rob weighs in at 216# and his BMI is 30%.  After 3 years of excellent health, he has a normal HgbA1C and his endocrinologist is highly impressed with the journey as well.

We take a proactive approach to our health and fitness and use all the tools provided to us from the CHI St. Vincent Bariatric Program. Rob and I strive daily to maintain the work of staying healthy for life.  We owe a lot to all the help from everyone in the bariatric program.  Without the additional education in diet, exercise and support groups, Rob and I would not be as successful today.  With a holistic approach to weight loss, we can overcome the obesity epidemic.

Thank you CHI St. Vincent Bariatric Program for all you love, support and dedication to our lives.
