How Virtual Care is Helping Prevent Heart Attacks and Strokes

Virtual care is helping doctors and nurses treat a variety of ailments and at CHI St. Vincent we are also using this technology to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

With the threat of Coronavirus, a lot of people don't want to leave their home. If you're one of those people and you still need to see a doctor, you may be in luck. Dr. Morris Kelly, an interventional cardiologist, is concerned that people who may be having a heart attack or a stroke are not reaching out for help.

"If you're having symptoms that you are concerned about being a heart attack or being a stroke then you definitely still want to go to the emergency room, still be treated at the hospital."

Heart attack symptoms may also seem like a panic attack. Heart attack symptoms get worse when you exert yourself. You are doing something where you're actually asking your heart to do more work and increasing the oxygen demand. If your situation or circumstance that brings on that chest pain, is more related to a specific situation it may be caused by anxiety rather than being related to your heart.

However, if you have a sudden onset of chest pain, call 9-1-1.
