Finding Lung Cancer Early

Lung cancer, like most cancers, is most easily treated when discovered early. Based on findings of the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), we know that low dose computed tomography (CT) lung screening can save lives of people at risk for developing lung cancer. Our lung cancer screening program uses a chest CT scan to test for the disease – even when no symptoms, clinical signs or history of the disease exist.

Less than 10 Seconds

Low-dose CT (LDCT) lung screening is quick and easy and results in a minimal amount of radiation exposure. It is one of the easiest screening exams you can have. The test takes less than 10 seconds. No medications are given, and no needles are used. You can eat before and after the exam, and you don’t even need to change as long as clothing on your chest does not contain metal (such as zippers). You must, however, be able to hold your breath for at least 6 seconds while the scan is being taken.
