CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs Awarded Accreditation by the Forum for Shared Governance

Jul 12, 2023
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs announced it has joined an elite group of only 40 other hospitals worldwide to receive the prestigious shared governance accreditation by the internationally-recognized Forum for Shared Governance. The accreditation elevates CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs among hospitals through the shared governance innovative management model, which ensures autonomy for nurses in making clinical bedside decisions. The Forum for Shared Governance presented
the rare accreditation to CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs following a rigorous survey and evaluation of the hospital’s practices for patient care. CHI St. Vincent received the highest score of any hospital to obtain the recognition.

“Our highly-skilled nurses are experts on the front line of providing the highest quality of care,” said CHI St. Vincent Hot Springs President Dr. Douglas Ross. “This accreditation confirms our commitment to our high standards by ensuring our nurses are directly empowered to advocate for patients and provide the utmost standard of patient-focused care.”

Shared governance allows nurses to make direct clinical patient-care decisions without being superseded by managers or administrators, who may not have enough information to advocate for total patient care. It also allows front-line medical professionals to share influence over resources leading to better patient
outcomes. Research studies have shown the application of shared governance is associated with better professional and organizational practices and improved patient outcomes.

The Forum for Shared Governance is the only agency to accredit organizations in shared governance, serving as a resource for hospitals around the globe for more than 25 years. Hospitals earn accreditation through extensive evaluation and scoring of patient care processes. CHI scored the highest of any other hospital to receive the credential.

This accreditation serves as an additional recognition of CHI St. Vincent’s broader commitment to excellence in patient care. The hospital recently earned Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades’ highest rating for patient safety, a spot on Fortune and PINC AI’s 2023 list of 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals TM nationwide, and a national Magnet designation for its continued commitment to nursing excellence and its support of nurses.
