How Weight Loss Surgery Can Improve Your Life

Obesity is a condition that can lead to serious health complications. Diet and exercise are the first steps to reach a healthy weight, if this is not successful, weight loss surgery may be a good option.

Dr. Brandon Ingram, Bariatric and General Surgery, says the most common weight loss procedure done nationally is the gastric sleeve.

"With the gastric sleeve, we're removing about 70% of the stomach. It has several advantages. You can't eat as much at one time and it improves your hunger. By that I mean that patients just don't feel hungry throughout the day and have to remind themselves to eat," said Dr. Ingram.

After weight loss surgery, benefits include improving comorbidity, and being able to come off of medications for things like high blood pressure, diabetes and sleep apnea.
