Diabetes, Obesity and Vascular Disease Contribute to Chronic Wound Epidemic

Wounds and Sores that are not Healing

Millions of people throughout the U.S. are suffering every day from chronic wounds, sores or ulcers that do not heal.  These wounds are common on the legs and feet but can occur anywhere on or in the body. Left untreated, chronic wounds can diminish your quality of life and potentially decrease your life expectancy.

An aging population and increasing rates of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, obesity and vascular disease contribute to the chronic wound epidemic. Approximately 30 percent of untreated chronic wounds result in amputation, and five-years post-amputation the mortality rate is 50 percent.
